5 Shipcarpenter Square is a one-and-a-half-story framed structure moved to its present location in the 1980s as part of the Shipcarpenter Square development. According to the official history of the development (https://sites.google.com/view/shipcarpenter-square/history?authuser=0), the house was originally built in the 1830s as a fisherman’s cottage on Pilottown Road in Lewes, then was moved to Belltown and used as a laundry/speakeasy/general store before being moved to its current location.
Dendrochronological analysis has shown that the building was constructed from timbers felled in the winter of 1834/5.
